What is Yard Management System (YMS)?

A yard management system tracks trailers between the gate and the dock door: what is parked where, which door it is assigned to, and how long it has sat.

Example. A carrier arrives for a preloaded trailer the gate log shows as empty, and the yard check finds it parked in the wrong row while the driver waits at the guard shack.
