What is LTL (Less-Than-Truckload)?

LTL is freight too small to fill a trailer, moving with other shipments through a carrier hub network, priced by weight and class, not by the truckload.

Example. A shipper tenders a few pallets; the carrier runs them into a break-bulk terminal, sorts them onto a line-haul trailer alongside other customers' freight, and rehandles them at the destination terminal before local delivery.
