What is First Mile?
First mile is the collection leg that carries freight from the shipper into a carrier's network, ending at the hub or terminal where line-haul begins.
Example. A manufacturer releases finished pallets in the afternoon, a collection run pulls them to the regional hub that evening, and they are cross-docked onto a line-haul trailer bound for the destination terminal.
