What is Dwell Time?
Dwell time is the total time a vehicle or container spends at a site, from arrival to release, including the free time that detention never bills.
Example. A driver reaches a distribution centre gate, waits for a door, is unloaded, then waits again for signed paperwork; all of it counts as dwell, while only the stretch past the contract's free time reaches the invoice as detention.
